Scientific conference

Letter of appreciation

Dear participants of the 4th International Scientific Conference Knowledge and Challenges of Globalisation 2012!

The traditional fourth consecutive International Scientific Conference, which was successfully implemented with the help of you, dear authors, has ended. The conference offered 97 papers, prepared by 143 authors, out of which 74 authors were from abroad. Furthermore, doctoral and master's students from our and other faculties also contributed a couple of high quality papers.

At the introductory plenary session after the opening of the conference we could see two very interesting papers. The first guest paper was interesting from the academic aspect, whereby the second was interesting from the business aspect. Prof. Mirjana Pejć Bach, PhD from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb discussed “How to write and publish a paper in ISI journal: A closer look to EE economics, business and management journals”, whereby Mr Tilen Šarlah, director of Investment Management Department at Ilirika, d.d. talked about the “Aggressive policy of central banks and its impact on capital markets.”

During both days of the conference we witnessed a lively debate in sixteen workshops dedicated to fundamental sections of the conference; modern aspects of entrepreneurship and marketing; tourism and the challenges of sustainable development; modern solutions in business IT and e-Business; challenges in the field of accounting, finance and the banking sector, as well as the recent quality trends of education and knowledge management.

According to section coordinators’ reports - whom I’d like to thank again for fruitful cooperation – interesting and polemic discussions took place in each section. At the final plenary session section coordinators delivered reports about their respective sections, while presenting main findings and research initiatives. We hereby establish that the quality of this year’s presentations even exceeded that of the previous years’ conferences. It is commendable that the majority of .papers was based on high quality empiric research; topics were modern and future-oriented and they also included the less-known fields of research; the international aspect of examination is present and the authors increasingly often objectively and self-critically evaluate their research.

This year we also awarded the prizes for the best two papers; one in the category of “best student paper” and one in the “all scientific papers” category. The awards were received by the student Ms Karmen Marguč for the paper “Econometric analysis of interaction between the emissions and power consumption in developing countries” and Anton Ogorelc, Borut Milfelner and David Kamenšek for the paper: “Detecting of impact of gambling tourism with locals”.

The international programme board met during the conference and prepared specific guidelines and the foreseen supplementations for the 5th International Scientific Conference of FKPV. This year’s novelty was that the best papers were already invited in an international science journal: Business Systems Research (BSR). Next year we aim to increase the number of such possibilities. The conference is scheduled from 14 to 15 November 2013 in Celje, so do not forget to reserve your time!

Soon we will contact you and submit to you formal invitations to participate at the above-specified conference and participate in other scientific conferences, co-organised by the FKPV. More information about the first such opportunity can be found: here.

A CD with all papers will be mailed to all participants in January 2013 at the latest. Until then we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, and all the best in 2013! Furthermore, we hope to see you at the next conference of the FKPV.

Kind regards

President of the conference programme board
Assoc. Prof. Ms Marjana Merkač Skok, PhD
