 Abbreviation of the academic title: mag. poslovne informatike, used after the name

Study programme modules:

  • Information systems management
  • Web applications

Students continuously demonstrate their acquired knowledge through active participation at lectures, tutorials and lab practice, short written works, written tests, preliminary tests and participation in the work environment. At the end of the learning process students also pass a written/oral examination. Examinations for part-time studies are usually organised two to three weeks after the completion of lectures for the corresponding subject.

Results of examinations are given the following grades: excellent (10), very good (9 and 8), good (7), adequate (6) and inadequate (1 to 5). Similar assessment criteria are laid down in the syllabuses and instructions for participation in the subject.

For advancement in Year 2 students shall fulfil study obligations equivalent to 40 ECTS credits. Exceptionally, students who for justifiable reasons have not achieved the prescribed number of ECTS credits may also enrol in Year 2. These reasons include: maternity, long sickness, bad social circumstances, student athlete status etc. Exceptional advancement in Year 2 is approved by the Commission for postgraduate studies on the basis of a written application, accompanied by proofs of the eligibility for exceptional advancement.

During their studies, students may re-enrol in the same year and change the selected module only once. Students changing the selected module shall fulfil the obligations of the module courses from the newly selected module, disregarding the fact that they might have already fulfilled some obligations from the previously selected module. Students may decide to study two modules at once and fulfil special obligations from each one. In this case, the master’s thesis may combine the subject matters of both modules. The students normally complete their studies within the time frame set out in the study programme. For justifiable reasons, they may extend their studies for one year. Students may also advance in Year 2 and complete their studies earlier than set out in the study programme.

Provisions for transfer between programmes

Transfer from other masters study programmes to the masters study programme Business Information Science is possible if the candidate meets the conditions for admission to the programme. Upon transferring to the programme, the candidate shall submit a certified transcript of records from the previous higher education institution and the official copies of the approved and valid course syllabi and of other completed study contents. The application is examined by the Commission for postgraduate studies by recommendation of the head of the postgraduate study programme. The transfer is carried out on the basis of recognition of exams the candidate completed in the previous study programme, taking into consideration the similarity between study contents (courses and other components of the study programme) and the comparability of the scope of courses expressed in ECTS credits.

Study programme Implementation Details

Part-time study is organized as a successive implementation of courses. Each course starts with lectures or other forms of work and continues until all prescribed forms of study are covered and the complete assessment of knowledge can be carried out. One year of part time study comprises 70% of contact hours prescribed for the full-time study programme.

For candidates who for objective reasons cannot attend lectures or other forms of organized study the Faculty may organize special forms of study, such as distance education or a combination of distance education with regular studies.

Students may decide to complete part of their studies abroad. The Commission for postgraduate studies decides on the candidate’s request and defines the length of studies and the obligations which can be recognized.

The FCBS Senate may organise the masters study programme as part time study at the FCBS seat in Celje and at postgraduate study centres for part-time study in Ljubljana and Maribor.

Conditions for completing the programme

To complete the masters study programme, students shall complete all obligations defined by the programme and successfully defend the master’s thesis. Taken together, the study obligations are equivalent to 120 ECTS credits.

Professional  title

After completing all obligations defined by the study programme Business Information Science, graduates acquire the title of magister/magistrica poslovne informatike (abbreviated to mag.poslovne informatike, used behind the name). If the relevant provisions of the Professional and Academic Title Act are changed, the title will be amended accordingly.

If grades for elective courses completed at foreign universities cannot be converted into a grade corresponding to the grading system at FCBS, the acquired knowledge is recognized with the original grade and the descriptive grade “recognized”. The FCBS Senate defines the methods for converting the knowledge acquired abroad into corresponding grades.Criteria for recognising knowledge and skills acquired prior to admissionThe faculty may recognize the knowledge and skills acquired prior to enrolment in the masters study programme in whole or in part, depending on the extent to which the knowledge and skills correspond to the general or subject-specific competences and contents of the study programme Business Information Science.

Recognition may also be given to knowledge or skills acquired by formal, informal or experiential education. The basis for recognition is a written application accompanied by official certificates and outlines of the completed programme or other written certificates specifying the level of the acquired knowledge. The Commission for postgraduate studies shall decide on the level of recognition of study obligations on the proposal of the coordinator of the corresponding course (who grades the recognized knowledge with ECTS credits and a grade).

The acquired knowledge and skills are recognised based on the following documents:

  • certificates and other documents proving the knowledge acquired outside the faculty;
  • grades for papers, services, publications or other works, if they correspond to the contents of the selected study module; the grading is carried out by the coordinator of the corresponding course;
  • certificate of previously graded knowledge or, for certain courses, the completed examination, even if not included in the study programme;
  • published articles in reviewed scientific journals or at conferences, if they correspond to the contents of the selected study module, based on the opinion of the coordinator of the corresponding course;
  • reports on applicative research and counselling projects, if they correspond to the contents of the selected study module, based on the opinion of the coordinator of the corresponding course;
  • confirmation of the organization where the candidate acquired working experience in the selected study field. Only experience where the monitoring and application of theoretical achievements was necessary can be recognized, based on the opinion of the coordinator of the corresponding course.

Based on the documentation, which includes the opinion of the coordinator of the corresponding course, the Commission for postgraduate studies decides on the complete or partial recognition of the study obligation for individual course / seminar papers or other obligations – taking into account the method of work at individual courses.
The described criteria apply for the recognition of knowledge acquired both in Slovenia and abroad.
