Admission requirements


The following candidates may enrol in the doctoral study programme:

Access to the doctoral study programme is granted to candidates who have successfully completed:

  •  master’s studies at the FKPV;
  • master’s studies (according to the Bologna model) at any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad;
  • scientific master’s studies at any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad (e.g. Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Management, etc). These candidates are awarded 60 credits upon enrolment (organised work);
  • scientific master’s studies at any other (i.e. not economics or business) higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad; these candidates are awarded 30 credits of completed study requirements upon enrolment;
  • specialisation studies upon prior university studies at any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad. These candidates are awarded 45 credits for completed study requirements upon enrolment;
  • specialisation studies upon prior completion of university studies at any other (i.e. not economics or business) higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad. These candidates are awarded 20 credits for completed study requirements upon enrolment;
  • master’s studies (according to the Bologna model) at any other (i.e. not economics or business) higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad provided that the programme comprised economics and business content worth a minimum of 45 credits, whereby the Committee for Scientific Research Work and Doctoral Studies sets differential examinations for any remaining credits on the basis of submitted documentation and an interview with the candidate;
  • university study programme at any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad, worth a minimum of 240 credits, provided that candidates demonstrated their suitability for scientific research work at the preliminary interview.
  • university studies at any other (i.e. not economics or business) higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad, worth a minimum of 240 credits, provided that candidates demonstrated their suitability for scientific research work at the preliminary interview; in such cases the Committee for Scientific Research Work and Doctoral Studies specifies differential examinations in economics subjects worth 60 credits;
  • specialisation study programme (the Bologna model) at any economics or business higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad and who, prior to that completed a professional higher education programme; the Committee for Scientific Research Work and Doctoral Studies specifies differential requirements depending on the completed programme, worth a maximum of 30 credits;
  • specialisation study programme (the Bologna model) at any other (i.e. not economics or business) higher education institution in Slovenia or abroad and who completed a professional higher education programme; the Committee for Scientific Research Work and Doctoral Studies specifies differential requirements based on the students’ submitted documentation and interview, worth a maximum of 60 credits;
  • 4-year university study programme at any economics or business higher education institutions in Slovenia or abroad worth a minimum of 240 credits and successfully completed MBA studies at a certified institution in Slovenia or abroad; candidates must also have at least 5 years of work experience in a position which requires a higher economics or business education; these candidates are awarded 60 ECTS credits for completed study requirements upon enrolment by the Committee for Scientific Research Work and Doctoral Studies;
  • study programmes under paragraph 4 Article 36 of the Higher Education Act, provided that it was worth at least 300 credits.

Each candidate may be invited to the interview, where the following assessed:

There is a preliminary interview with the candidates, where the interviewers establish:

  • the candidate’s motives for doctoral studies;
  • the candidate’s dedication to scientific research work;
  • suitability of prior education for enrolment under the above-specified criteria;
  • other content in accordance with Article 5 of the Rules on the implementation of the doctoral studies at the FKPV.

Minutes are taken during each interview.

Criteria when enrolment is restricted the selection of candidates will be based on:

If the number of candidates exceeds the number of vacancies the candidates will be selected on the basis of their average grade at the completed level (50%) and the grade for the candidate’s final work/thesis (50%). Candidates with the highest number of awarded points will be selected for each study option.
