About the library

The FCBS Library became a full member of the COBISS system on 15 December 2005. It opened to visitors on 27 May 2006, which is also its founding date. The library is located on the 1st floor of the faculty premises at the head office location in Celje, Lava 7. The modern functionally equipped library is divided into two separate units. The freely accessible library materials classified according to UDC are located on the central library premises, and the reading room within the library can also serve as a computer room. There are 26 seats and 22 personal computers available to meet the ICT needs of library visitors.

The FCBS Library offers its visitors:

  • a pleasant place for their studies;
  • the ability to search for resources in the COBISS library catalogues;
    With the aid of this network application users are provided with online access to Slovenian library catalogues. Due to the automated indexing of FCBS Library materials in the COBISS system, users can acquire information about the accessibility of materials (available/borrowed, date of return, availability at other libraries, etc). With their username and password, which they acquire at the library, they can reserve the materials or prolong the date of return with the help of the My library service;
  • borrowing of materials at faculty branches;
  • interlibrary loans;
  • monthly lists of new materials;
  • access to the Internet, as well as general and professional databases;
  • keeping of personal bibliographies;
  • IT literacy education.

The basic library stock tries to cover the fields of economic sciences, business IT and tourism. The Faculty of Commercial and Business Sciences Library thus selects, processes, edits, stores and lends resources from the fields of entrepreneurship, management, business sciences, marketing and economics, banking, law, sociology, tourism, logistics, foreign languages, etc. Library resources are continuously updated with regular purchases and (mostly institutional) donations. At the end of the academic year 2011/2012 the FCBS Library collection comprised 6,350 items. Besides monographs it offers its users access to 43 different Slovenian and foreign serial publications. With their username and password users are also provided with access to the online versions of specific serial publication that enable access to full articles, as well as databases, e.g. Gvin.com, Bizi.si, iBON and SPSS.

Library milestones

In 2011 the FCBS Library acquired access to the ProQuest and SpringerLink full text databases, while it also started to negotiate access to the Emerald consortium database, which was acquired at the beginning of 2012. All three databases can be accessed by students remotely from home using their username and password. This has allowed us to refresh and enrich our library stock with new and up-to-date knowledge.

In March 2012 we were the first library in Slovenia that began with the cataloguing process in the COBISS3 segment, while the full implementation of the cataloguing and maintenance of personal biographies processes also began at our library.

In the beginning of 2012 the citation standards were updated. The ISO 690 and ISO 690-2 standards were replaced by the American Psychology Association (APA) citation standard, which is much more common in the field of social sciences. The standard entered into use on 1 October 2012.

In May 2012 the library staff attended professional training at the Universitätsbibliothek at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, which was carried out within the context of the Erasmus exchange programme. Besides new knowledge we also established new contacts with institutions from across Europe, with whom we can cooperate in the field of international exchanges of students and professional staff, while we also took advantage of the exchange to promote the faculty and the international scientific conference.
