General information

ORGANISATION OF STUDIES

Part-time studies: Lectures, tutorials and lab work is held 2-3 times a week in the afternoon (after 16:30) and on Saturday mornings. The part-time study programme is provided at the head office in Celje, as well as at branches in Ljubljana, Maribor, Nova Gorica, Murska Sobota and Slovenj Gradec.

The academic year begins in October and ends in September.

DURATION OF STUDIES

Part-time studies are of 2 years’ duration (4 semesters).

Assessment and verification of knowledge must enable the monitoring of the achievement of the program’s goals, which include ongoing study and the achievement of an appropriate level of knowledge/competence.

Due to the different content and way of working in each course, more detailed methods of assessment and knowledge verification are specified in the course curricula and are adapted to the specifics of the individual course and its goals.

Success in the exam is evaluated with grades: excellent (10), very good (9 and 8), good (7), sufficient (6) and insufficient (1 to 5). The detailed evaluation criteria and the evaluation scale are written in the Rules on the verification and evaluation of knowledge, curricula and instructions for participating in the course.

If, for optional subjects from study programs at universities abroad, it is not possible to convert the grade into a grade according to the system valid at FKPV, the student will be recognized with the original grade and descriptive recognition as “recognized” for such verified knowledge. The FKPV Senate regulates in more detail the methods of converting grades for testing the knowledge that candidates have acquired abroad. Recognition of knowledge and skills acquired prior to enrollment in the program.

A student advances to the 2nd year if he achieves at least 17 KT and has fully paid tuition. A student can part-time advances to a higher year, even if he has justifiable reasons for this (longer absence from work, longer illness…). Extraordinary promotion is decided by the Master’s Study Affairs Commission on the basis of an application, which is payable according to the valid price list.

During his studies, a student can repeat a year once and change his major once. A student who changes a major must complete the coursework requirements of the newly chosen major, regardless of the fact that he has already completed some of the requirements from the first major. A student can choose to study two majors at the same time and fulfill the specific obligations of each major. In his master’s thesis, he can combine the topics of both courses. As a rule, the student completes his studies in the time provided for in the study program. For justifiable reasons, the study may be extended by one year. However, the student can advance to a higher year and finish his studies earlier than is foreseen in the study program.

Methods and forms of studying

In part-time studies, organized pedagogical work is carried out according to the system of sequential implementation of teaching subjects. Each course begins with lectures or other intended forms of work and continues until all the intended forms of work are exhausted and the entire knowledge test can be carried out.
For candidates who, for objective reasons, cannot attend lectures or of other organized forms of study, a study that is normal for distance learning can be introduced, or the classic way of studying can be combined with elements of distance learning.

Students can decide to complete part of their studies abroad. At the candidate’s request, the Master’s Study Affairs Committee adopts a decision on this, which determines the length of the study and the obligations that the candidate will be recognized for.

Conditions for completing studies

The condition for completing the studies is that all the obligations stipulated in the program have been completed and that the master’s thesis has been written and successfully defended, with which the candidate accumulates at least 120 ECTS.

Professional or scientific title

After completing all the obligations prescribed by the Commercial course at FKPV, the candidate obtains the professional title of Master of Business Sciences.

The FKPV recognizes the knowledge and skills acquired by the student before enrolling in the master’s program in whole or in part, depending on whether they fully or in part correspond to the general or subject-specific competencies and goals of the program. Knowledge and skills acquired through formal, informal or experiential learning are recognised. The basis for recognition is a written application with attached official certificates and an extract of the program or other written evidence from which the level of acquired knowledge can be judged. The degree of recognition of the study obligation is approved at the proposal of the subject holder (who evaluates the recognition with credit points) and with a grade by the Master’s Study Affairs Committee. The basis for recognition are the following documents:

  • certificate and other documents on acquired knowledge outside the higher education institution:
  • evaluation of candidates’ products, services, publications and other works of authorship, if they are consistent with the content of the course of study chosen by the student; the evaluation is carried out by the subject holder;
  • certificate of already verified knowledge in some subjects passed exam, although not enrolled in the program;
  • published contributions in peer-reviewed scientific journals or conferences, if they are consistent with the content of the study direction the student has chosen; the head of the course gives an opinion on this;
  • reports on applied research and consulting projects, if they are consistent with the content of the study direction that the student has chosen; the head of the course gives an opinion on this;
  • certificate from the organization about the candidate’s work experience in the professional field he has chosen for study.

Only experiences are recognized where it is clear that in order to do his job well, the candidate had to follow the achievements of theory and include them in his work. The head of the course gives an opinion on this. On the basis of the documentation, which also includes the opinion of the subject holder, the Master’s Study Affairs Committee decides on the recognition of the full or partial study obligation for an individual subject, the obligation of a seminar assignment and other obligations, taking into account the way of working in the individual subject. The described criteria apply to the recognition of knowledge acquired in Slovenia and abroad.
